Meet the Partners and Associates

Peter Cheney FCAPeter Cheney FCA

Peter has over thirty years experience mainly with Spain Brothers & Co, having joined the firm in 1982 from Price Waterhouse Cooper.

Peter has recently taken on the role of Managing Partner of the firm in addition to his client responsibilities and has been responsible for a number of changes within the firm’s structure.

The portfolio of clients managed by Peter is primarily in relation to owner managed businesses across a wide range of industries but with a particular emphasis on the construction industry and motor retailers. Peter is also responsible for a number of Charities and has a wide experience of taxation and Executorships.

Outside of the office family life with four children and one grandchild occupies a lot of his time but there is still some time left to play golf and take an interest in a number of other activities of both a sporting and cultural nature.

Andrew Dixon FCAAndrew Dixon FCA

Andrew joined the Canterbury office of Spain Brothers in 1983, moved to the Dover office in 1986 and returned to Canterbury in 1988 as a qualified manager for the then Senior Partner, became an Associate in 1992 and a partner in 1996.

He is the partner who heads up the firm’s tax department and also looks after a diverse range of clients from sole trader builders to wholesale meat traders. Andrew is also responsible for a number of Pension Scheme audits and other professional services.

Andrew’s five children keep him busy when not in the office particularly watching them play football (mainly in the rain). He is also a trustee for a number of charities including School Gift Aid and a Musical Instrument Collection. He is also Treasurer for his local Church and Horticultural Society.

Paul Flood FCAPaul Flood FCA

Paul joined Spain Brothers in 1985 in the now closed Tonbridge office as a manager, having previously completed his training with Reeves & Neylan in Canterbury and moving to Wood King in 1980. He then joined Bride & Johnson & Co in 1983 as a qualified manager before joining Spain Brothers where he became a partner in 1990 and moved to the Canterbury office in the early 1990s.

Paul heads up the Regulated Services Department and is involved very much with public school audits along with the building trade and leisure industries. Business consultancy and corporate restructuring are particular specialisms of Pauls for which he has an extensive knowledge and experience.

Outside of the office Paul is married with four children and is a trustee for a number of Charities and Treasurer for his local church. Other interests include sport (mainly watching it these days), travelling in France and gardening.

Julian Glenister FCAJulian Glenister FCA

Prior to joining Spain Brothers in 1989 as a manager, Julian qualified with Reeves & Neylan in Canterbury in 1984 and then left the profession to work in industry as a management accountant for a travel company and then as a group accountant for a food company before rejoining the profession in 1988 with a firm of accountants in Canterbury.

Julian is the partner who heads up the Business Services Department and he also manages a diverse portfolio of clients in numerous sectors including retail, design, professional services and the motor industry, along with a number of not for profit organisations.

Julian has a large experience of business start-ups and assisting with their development and growth.

When not in the office, Julian is a keen golfer and an avid sports watcher, particularly in relation to football and cricket, having now had to retire from playing both. His family also keeps him busy with two daughters, one currently at university and the other who is currently in her last year at school before going to college. Julian also has and is involved with a number of local organisations serving on various committees.

Mark Minus FCAMark Minus FCA

Having been educated in Dover and studied accounting and finance at Bangor University, North Wales, Mark joined Spain Brothers in 1984 and qualified as an ACA in 1990. Having then gone through various roles within Spain Brothers, Mark became a partner in 2000.

Mark is responsible for a number of owner managed business clients across a large variety of sections and specialises in the charity sector, road haulage, freight forwarding and property development and construction sectors.

Mark is also the firm’s technical partner responsible for ensuring that his fellow partners and staff are kept up to date in this respect.

Outside the office, Mark is married with four children and his main interests are carpentry, architecture and design and trying to relax in the garden.

Associates

Helen Lucas FCAHelen Lucas FCA

Helen joined the firm in 1991 in the Dover office as a trainee and was quickly moved to Canterbury in 1992 and qualified as an ACA in 1995.

Helen specialises in work for family owned businesses and small companies together with audit work as a manager on larger assignments. Helen also has an extensive knowledge of charity accounts in relation to both their audit and independent examination.

Helen became an Associate of the firm in 2008.

Outside of the office, Helen is marred with two children and is fluent in French and is also a member of the Committee of Management for a local old peoples home in Deal.
